A Good Year

This is one of those nice feel good movies. Good for the eyes and brings a smile to the lips. The story is not so unique but I quite liked the way it's been handled.

It's about this really successful trader who makes hordes of money in London. He doesn't trust a soul, is a workoholic and plain insensitive. His growing up years with his Uncle Henry on the latter's estate in France are the only fond memories he has. Uncle Henry is his only family. He gets a notification in his mail that Uncle Henry has passed away and has left his estate in France to his nephew. He loves Uncle Henry but he doesnt admit it even to himself till Uncle Henry dies. The story is how he visits the estate to basically value it and sell it off and return to his life in london. However, destiny has it planned quite differently.

The movie is a nice watch. Good pace. Russel Crowe is good. Honestly, i don't know or remember the names of the others. Overall, good job by all.

To Kill A Mockingbird

This piece of work by Harper Lee is truly amazing. Her style of writing, describing with utmost detail (all relevant), her unique way of storytelling, and the overall simplicity and *believability* of her story is what makes it extremely enjoyable reading. The sensitivity with which she has dealt with the growing up years of two children, a brother and a sister, in a small American town is commendable. As part of the journey, she has artistically and almost inadvertantly touched upon historical moments in the America of that time, issues like the prevalant racism, the life of small towners, their joys and their challenges.

And I fell in love with Atticus Finch - what an amazing human being - admirable!

This book is a must read.
