roots
finished reading Alex Haley's 'Roots' last nite.
a comprehensive tale.. a commendable piece of work.
if someone was to make a film based on this book, i don't think i would have the heart to watch it. the atrocities are heart-wrenching and unimaginable. yet it is true. it is amazing how us humans can treat our fellow humans as a commodity, and inflict unending, unimaginable pain and insult.
the book achieves a lot - it is very informative despite being a narrative regarding the protagonist. the book is a tribute to the resilience of humans when faced with suffering that they need to endure, including the extreme frustration of being helpless. the book is a tribute to all those whose thoughts and actions contributed directly or indirectly to abolishing slavery. the book is a hope for human dignity.
the book is truly an act of love..
